I once presented a workshop in regional Australia which was arranged by the state government, and they had picked the local pub as the venue.

On the night there were a comedy of errors that went wrong, and it taught me a lot about keeping your cool under pressure.

Here's what happened:
- Venue didn't have our booking
- Venue put us in a dusty storeroom, full of vintage furniture from the 60s
- Venue set up storeroom so that the only electrical power point in the room was being used by the urn for tea & coffee
- 10 minutes into the presentation the smoke alarms went off because the urn was shooting steam directly at it
- Half way through the presentation the person staying in the room next to the storeroom started playing heavy metal music very loud
- The pub had a "members draw" for $1000, very loudly amplified

It was an excellent lesson in coming early, and being prepared :)
