Enchanting presentation design from Guy Kawasaki

Here at Ideaseed, we’ll admit to a schoolgirl crush on Guy Kawasaki – we love his work.The slides below come from a recent presentation he did at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas earlier this month. “Enchantment: The Art of Changing Hearts, Minds and Actions” is a textbook case of a five-star presentation design.As you may have guessed from the title, it’s about using the power of enchantment, something that only Harry Potter was previously privy to. It’s also one inspiring, motivational slide show, in true Kawasaki fashion.You can see how Kawasaki has refined his presentation technique since 2005, when he famously advocated the 10-20-30 PowerPoint slides rule. You know the one: no more than 10 slides; the speech not longer than 20 minutes, and text no smaller than size 30 font.Sure, it’s still a 50-slide presentation – that’s rule no 1 broken right there – but Kawasaki has whittled his storyline down like Santa Claus on a post-Xmas diet, you don’t even notice it’s more than 10 slides. Good presentations and public speaking is an ever-evolving art, we tell you.Notice how he still uses large font sizes, with minimal words on each slide. Hell, there are only two or three words on some of them. Also, one idea per slide – nothing more... Notice all the high quality, expressive ‘people’ pictures. No clip art, no pixilation, no cheesy animation and transitions.It’s a simple message; five points that the audience has to grasp. Achieve likeability, achieve trustworthiness, overcome resistance, how to enchant people who work for you, and how to enchant your boss. Even goldfish could get their little heads around ’em.A simple message, delivered powerfully. We like.
